Secularismo, de novo
O Hertzberg voltou ao assunto no blog dele, colocando fogo no circo mórmon:
For reasons of civil peace, people’s religious beliefs should indeed be tolerated. So should their political beliefs. That’s why I insist that the state must be secular and the society open. But when particular religious doctrines intrude themselves into the political realm, I fail to see why they should not be subject to the normal rough and tumble of intellectual debate and scrutiny, which includes argument, disagreement, analysis, and, yes, ridicule—none of which are incompatible with tolerance. Treating them as undiscussible is condescension, not respect.
